Mexico Denounces US Military Action in Venezuela

(MENAFN) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum strongly criticized the US military involvement in Venezuela and the detention of President Nicolas Maduro, rejecting any type of armed interference in Latin America and dismissing the notion of a similar strike on Mexican soil.

Speaking at her morning press conference on Monday, Sheinbaum emphasized that Mexico firmly opposes all external intervention, a stance she said is rooted not only in the Mexican Constitution but also in the UN Charter.

“We categorically reject intervention in the internal affairs of other countries. The history of Latin America is clear and compelling: intervention has never brought democracy, never generated well-being, nor lasting stability,” she declared.

Maduro and his spouse, Cilia Flores, were taken into custody after US President Donald Trump ordered aerial bombardments on several locations in Caracas on Saturday, an operation that reportedly caused at least 80 confirmed fatalities.

Mexico’s Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente also condemned the Trump administration’s actions, criticizing what he described as the UN’s passive stance and arguing that the organization has failed to respond effectively to unilateral and violent measures against a sovereign state.

“The United Nations remains our primary multilateral structure. It is the best we have. But unfortunately, today it has proven ineffective in trying to contain abuses by hegemonic powers. Hardly more than a voice can be raised to denounce the daily violations of international law,” de la Fuente remarked.
