Trump plans to buy Greenland instead of using military action— Rubio
The information emerged during a briefing in which top senators questioned whether the president might employ military force in regions such as Greenland or Mexico.
Trump, who first expressed interest in acquiring Greenland during his initial term, has framed control of the strategically positioned island as essential for national security and countering Russian and Chinese naval influence.
“President Trump has made it well known that acquiring Greenland is a national security priority of the United States, and it’s vital to deter our adversaries in the Arctic region,” stated White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. She added that using the military is “always an option at the commander-in-chief’s disposal.”
European NATO members issued a statement on Tuesday affirming Denmark’s sovereignty over Greenland and supporting its self-governing status. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that no NATO member “should attack or threaten” another and warned that a conflict between the US and Denmark would undermine the alliance entirely.
